I was the original designer for Sit Conmigo, an ethical furniture company, where I developed a single-page desktop website to showcase their collection of sustainably crafted chairs.
Later, I was brought back to make the site mobile-responsive and add a pre-order feature for the collection. Yolanda Foster, the owner of Sit Conmigo, emphasized the importance of mobile accessibility for her customers, so I started with a mobile-first approach.
I also worked on creating a user-friendly order placement system to simplify the pre-order process. For the project, I chose the color palette and typography, ensuring the design was adaptable across all devices.
The goal was to reflect the brand’s values while encouraging pre-orders for the beautiful, ethically made, and sustainably sourced chairs.
As the sole web designer for Yolanda, I handled all layout and design decisions for her website, keeping her regularly updated on the project's progress.
Yolanda’s admirable business ethics and beautifully handcrafted chairs deserve a platform that highlights them to buyers around the world, giving her the best opportunity for success.
By enabling pre-orders for her designs, we allow her to focus production on the most in-demand pieces, supporting her sustainability efforts and maximizing the likelihood that each chair will be sold.
This approach reduces waste in both materials and costs from unsold inventory. It was also essential to emphasize Yolanda’s values and brand personality to effectively reach her target audience.
My design process started with gathering information. I aimed to fully understand Yolanda's vision for the website and the business goals she wanted to achieve. A questionnaire was used to gather specific details, and Yolanda's responses emphasized the importance of showcasing the ethical and sustainable values of her brand while making it easy for customers to place pre-orders.
With these goals in mind, I began wireframing, starting with the mobile layout. I focused on creating a visual hierarchy that prioritized Yolanda's needs, including a prominent call-to-action pre-order button and large images of Sit Conmigo’s chairs to capture attention. Once the mobile version was set, I moved on to wireframing the desktop layout, ensuring the design maintained a clear visual structure that effectively displayed her products.
The paper wireframes were then converted into a digital format using Figma. I incorporated Sit Conmigo's text and content to ensure the layout complemented the copy, making slight adjustments to keep the design clean and cohesive.
At this stage, it was time to choose a color palette, as Sit Conmigo didn't have any existing branding to reference. I selected a dark green as the primary color, reflecting the brand’s commitment to environmentalism while adding the warmth that’s appealing in furniture purchases. For accent colors, I chose warm beige and grey tones to incorporate earthy elements into the design.
Next, I focused on selecting typefaces. To convey Sit Conmigo's trustworthy tone, I chose Noto Serif and Calistoga for the navigation menus. For titles, headers, and pre-order buttons, I went with Inika and Raleway to add boldness, while Poppins was used for smaller text to ensure readability and maintain a cohesive look throughout the site.
